Cast, forged, and composite camshafts
Camshaft segmentWe supply camshafts in cast, forged, and composite designs. Each variant has its own specific properties and advantages. Components subject to higher loads upon roller contact can be inductively hardened. A selection of specialty materials is available for further customer-specific requirements.
Forged camshafts or steel camshafts made of solid material are used in high-speed engines. They are manufactured on computer-controlled forging systems with integrated heat treatment, or machined from solid material.
Composite camshafts consist of different materials. The lobe is made of precision steel pipes, and the cams are made of steel and powder metal materials. This innovative MAHLE development offers crucial advantages compared to solid camshafts. It is extremely flexurally rigid, up to 45 percent lighter than conventional products, and offers high angular accuracy during assembly. Owing to these properties, it is particularly suited for use in medium-speed engines.
